FAQs
Q: Do I need a Contract for painting?

Yes, A contract is like a roadmap without one, one may become lost over important logistics of the project. Such as cost, type of materials to be used, a clearly defined description of what is to be done and the time frames that work is to be done by. An example: in California contractors are only allowed to require a 10% deposit or $1000.00 dollars whichever is less of the agreed contract price. Contractors may set forth progress payments describing work performed and materials provided.

Q: Should I hire a Licensed or Unlicensed Contractor?

In California it is against the law for an individual to contract home improvement or construction services without an issued license from the California contractors state license board. Any amount over $500.00 dollars which includes the cost of materials and labor requires a contractor’s license issued by the Contractors State license board. The individual or entity working with the unlicensed contractor would have no recourse in a court of law for work performed by an unlicensed contractor. The Contractor State license board is there to regulate contractors and give the added assurance to those who utilize their services. The CSLB is the extra layer of protection for the consumer.
